Ideal has been shortlisted for an Institute of IT Training Award for innovation in training services through its accredited education curriculum.  Finalists will be announced at the Institute's prestigious Awards Dinner on 4 February at the Dorchester Hotel in London.

Ideal demonstrated innovation in training services through partnering with Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust to train new medical students in the use of its Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS).

Ideal is recognised by the NHS under the Health Informatics Quality Scheme and the National Awarding Body NCFE for the Care Information Systems User Competencies framework (CIS UCQ).  CIS maps training to national occupational standards and the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF).  CIS also supports personal and professional development and career progression routes identified in the Health Informatics Career Framework and HiProfile.

CPD contributions are also recognised and awarded under the CIS framework through partnerships with participating universities.

Following a rigorous readiness audit, Salisbury NHS FT is now an accredited training centre for delivering CIS to support improved governance, performance and business benefits.

Since becoming an approved centre for delivering CIS, Salisbury NHS FT has assessed 15 medical students on the PACS module, identified gaps in understanding, delivered the necessary training and established a process for reassessment.

New medical students joining the Trust on placement are assessed to measure their level of understanding and competency in using healthcare systems to identify training requirements.

Through this assessment process, Salisbury NHS FT has recorded higher levels of staff achievement and attainment, creating greater proficiency and professionalism leading to improved quality to clinical information capable of supporting clinical decision making and patient care.

Andrew Raynes, Director of Education Quality and Accreditation at Ideal explains, "By working in partnership with Ideal, Salisbury NHS FT has gained an objective view on their approach to training delivery greatly enhancing their business planning process.  Real benefit has been gained by the increase in governance and the quality assurance that staff are competent and confident in recording tracking information for the patient journey".

The Institute of IT Training hosts the annual IT Training Awards to recognise outstanding expamples of high standards, best practice, innovation and excellence within IT training.  The awards are now firmly established as the benchmark for excellence throughout the IT training industry.
