Salisbury RTT
Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust has seen marked improvements in staff performance after working with Ideal to train and assess 100 staff on Referral to Treatment.
The project has ensured that Trust staff are equipped with the right knowledge and skills to improve efficiency and effectiveness within a patient focused framework.
Working in partnership with Ideal, the Trust has achieved CIS UCQ status. This guarantees their business processes and training delivery incorporate rigorous assessment to ensure learners have a consistant understanding of the RTT process.
The competency based assessment helps develop booking and information teams. Consistent standards in recording and tracking patients through the pathway assist the Trust in achieving key targets. Staff are well equipped and motivated to deal with the referrals process ensuring patients are seen on time. The Trust can produce more accurate Payment by Results data, critical for recouping importnat funds and managing Trust resources.
Peter Gill, Head of Informatics at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust commented:
"Recently it became a legal requirement to patients that we would initiate their treatment within 18 weeks of the GP referral into our planned care services. As an NHS Trust we will have approximately 300,000 patients participating in these services per year. We must have watertight systems to ensure we know the position of every single one of these patients and progress them effectively along the pathway to the point of treatment within this legal timescale. We need patients to feel safe and assured that we are managing their care optimally. The skills and capabilities of our staff working withing these services are vital to meeting these requirements, giving patients the assuance they need, and ultimately treating conditions, diseases and people who are often in pain and anxious as quickly and effectively as possible. The CIS award provides patients, clinicians and other leaders of the organisation the assurance that staff have these capabilities and patient will get the best service possible."
Susan Lees, IT Training Manager at Salisbury is delighted with the results achieved from the Refferal to Treatment project. She explains:
"Our CIS project on Referral to Treatment has provided an auditable level of competency and has improved the knowledge and skills amongst our Bookings and Information team. It is evident that our project has resulted in better quality information ensuring our patients are seen on time while enabling minority groups within our workforce to access appropriate awards and higher education opportunities through the HEIs".
Andrew Raynes, Director of Education Quality and Accreditation at Ideal commented:
"It is exciting to see Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust continue to achieve high standards through their CIS UCQ project. It is particularly rewarding when the results of the Trust's efforts show signs of increased productivity and efficiency resulting in improvement to the patient experience."
